Hello from Northwest Connecticut!
As I descended Mt. Algo in Kent, a hike I vowed to complete on the day following the last day of school, an idea sprouted in my mind. Since I'd like to explore many of the natural areas in Northwest Connecticut I've yet to visit (only having been in the state for 2 years now), why not attempt 26 hikes this summer, one for each letter of the alphabet? Mt. Algo on The Appalachian Trail would be a natural start: "A."
Now to research! My main sources were as follows:
- The Connecticut Walk Book - a guide to the state's Blue-Blazed system of hiking trails published by the Connecticut Forest & Parks Association, as well as their website
- "Kent Trails: A Hiker's Guide" - a new publication by the Kent Conservation Commission
- BershireHiking.com - a well-organized site by avid hiker Keith Riley
I'm sure Q, X, Y, Z are going to be tricky. We'll have to get creative!
See you on the trail!
